Why Is Service Of Process Important?

When you start a court case, you have to let the other side know. This is called giving notice.

 

• It's required so that both sides know what’s happening.

• Usually, you give notice by giving court papers to the other side, and this may happen many times during a case.

• But you can’t just hand them the papers yourself.

• You have to follow a specific process called service.

• The judge can’t make any final decisions in your case until the other side has been properly served.
